| There are several departments within the hospital covering a wide range of medical and nursing services. Our staff are all qualified medical officers, clinical officers and nurses, who run the departments to ensure clients receive the best possible service.
COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
Although this is a new department in the hospital, VCT has been in existence since 2002. The department works closely with CBHC, CBAC assisted by trained CHWS based in the community. The objective of this department is mainly to help, inform and promote prevention to in patients, out patients and their relatives on HIV/AIDS related issues, through activating projects such as the Post Test Clubs (PTC) to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS amongst youngsters. It implements ongoing psycho-social support for the HIV/AIDS orphans, vulnerable children, the infected and the affected in the community.
The home based care services provided to the clients infected with HIV/AIDS makes them feel supported and have hope in life. The provision of mobile VCT goes along way in helping reduce stigma among the community, hence giving a chance for the clients to start ART in time. The department also provides continuous health education through the Post Test Clubs. Follow-ups by the health provider are one way of giving psychological support to the infected and affected families within the community.

ST ELIZABETH SCHOOL OF NURSING
The school of nursing is a testing institution situated along the Kakamega-Kisumu road in Kakamega District. The school is owned by the Catholic Church under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Kakamega.
The course offered is the Registered Community Health Nursing program which takes three and a half years to complete. There are two intakes in an academic year, March and September, and only ladies are admitted.
The school was founded in the early 1960’s by a Dutch Sister as a pre-training school for patients attendants; and in 1963 it was upgraded to an Enrolled Midwifery School. This program went on until 1975 when it had final graduates.
In 1973 it started the training of the Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurses (KECHN), and most graduated from the program. In March 1999, the Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing program was introduced; so far 159 have graduated from the program.
In September 2005, the school started an upgrading program of Enrolled Community Nurses to provide distance education to students willing to learn both through the print and electronic media.
The institution has a total of ten tutors, one clinical instructor, five administrative personnel, one driver, four cooks and two cleaners. We also have two affiliate tutors, a priest who teaches medical ethics and a government personnel for psychiatric nursing.
Our basic students are boarders and we have a total of 138; whereas the distance education learners are 23. Learning is through the traditional methods for the basic students.
We also have assorted games for both students and staff, and although our library is partially equipped our students do very well, excelling in national examinations. Reported by Sr Leah C. Rugut, Principal. School of Nursing.
