St. Elizabeth Hospital also referred to as Mukumu Mission Hospital, was founded in 1938 by Catholic Ursiline Sisters. Since then our hospital has steadily expanded to its current size of 240 beds capacity. Our total number of in patients admitted annually exceeds 6,000 and out patients over 14,000. At present the hospital is owned and administered by the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega (CDOK), through the Board of Governor (BOG) and the management team within the hospital.
There is also a Nursing Training School offering diplomas for both, basis and post-basic students who are undertaking upgrading courses as distance learners.

The main catchments for the hospital are Isukha and Idakho locations, with a population of about 350,000 and a surface area of 500 square kilometers. The hospital also receives patients from neighboring districts, such as Nandi, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Buteremumias, Teso, Mt. Elgon and Ki, as well as from other parts of Western Kenya.
An adequate communication/transport system enables patients and their relatives to reach our facilities easily. Some of them can even afford to reach the hospital on foot from within a radius of 2-3.5 km.

Our hospital’s management team:

  • Roman Catholic Diocese of Kakamega headed by his Lordship, Bishop Philip Sulumeti
